2016/1/09 SWIS Lecture Series—The Anxiety-free way of Parenting

On January 9th, SWIS Director Ms. Ally Wu and an exemplary SWIS parent Ms. Wen shared their experiences of successful parenting in the theater.

【News report】

Many parents today can't help but feel or show anxiety when their children are not perfectly executing the "education blue print". On January 9th, SWIS Director Ms. Ally Wu and an exemplary SWIS parent Ms. Wen shared their experiences of successful parenting.Ms. Wen used personal experience of her and her children to show that parenting can be fun and anxiety-free.

Following Ms. Wen's presentation, Ms. Ally Wu shared her experience as a successful parent. Ms. Ally Wu shared the stories of her daughter—a talented and daring young Yale graduate whose empathy and love of culture takes her to various parts of the world.The lecture concluded with a heart-warming poem written by Ms. Ally Wu to her Daughter.

2016-1-12 Volleyball QSI @ SWIS

The MS Volleyball season is under way with improvements in training and in matches occurring already.Next we'll come up with the game between GOS and SWIS.

【News report】

The MS Volleyball season started last week. SWIS played against ISNS on Wednesday. It was a close encounter with the score line remaining tight throughout the whole match. The first set went to SWIS, 25-23, the second set to ISNS, 25-21. SIWS showed lots of determination to win the final and decisive set, 15-6.

Although the girl’s team lost their first two games they are improving their individual and team skills and were happy to win a set.

2016-1-19 Grade 5 Living Museum

On Jan. 19th, Grade 5 students had a special living museum in the SWIS library.

【News report】

Grade 5 students have been inquiring into significant individuals to understand the personal histories and significant events that have helped to shape the people they are. On last Tuesday, Grade 5 held a Living Museum. Students researched a person of significance to share information about who the person is, why they are significant, how they impacted society and others’ perspectives of the person.

In preparing for such an event, students are able to show commitment to the engagement and take responsibility for their own learning. Grade 5 students seized opportunities to display Open-mindedness about other perspectives and to be Risk-takers by modeling a variety of communication skills for peers, parents and teachers.

2016-1-20 Grade 3 Production

On January 20th , The Grade 3 students had a wonderful production performance in SWIS theatre, winning round of applause from the audience

【News report】

On the 20th January 2016 ,Grade 3 took to the stage in spectacular style to perform, Musical Maurice and The History Hop. Students from across the grade displayed many of the PYP Attitudes and Learner Profile as they danced, sang and acted to share the journey of music over time to parents and older grades within the school.

Grade 3 accepted responsibility by showing their abilities in their Unit Production. These Risk-takers were confident in sharing their learning while singing and dancing. While creating the script and dances, they were tolerant of one another, developed their listening skills and showed enthusiasm for learning. The high levels of cooperation and creativity from the students was obvious!

2016-1-27 SWIS CNY Celebration

On the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 27th, SWIS community kicked off celebration of Chinese New Year of Monkey.

【News report】

On the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 27th, SWIS kicked off celebration of Chinese New Year of Monkey with traditional Chinese Lion and Monkey dance. SWIS community members including students, teachers and parents all put on excellent performances on the stage, which are all related to the theme- “Hometowns for Global Citizens”.

Fourteen different hometown groups have presented the uniqueness of their own through foods, art works, dramas, and etc, which has demonstrated the diversity of Chinese culture. All participants and guests had great fun while experiencing a fantastic tour of Chinese culture.

Ending

At the end of this edition , let's celebrate and cheer up the Chinese new year of the Monkey with the SWIS community .
