Congratulations to our First Lego League Robotics team, Genius Rocs who participated in the ACAMIS National Finals at the Shanghai Community International School last weekend. This was our first competitive appearance at a major robotics competition and the results were outstanding.
As part of the ACAMIS Robotics Competitions all primary, middle and high school teams compete in four categories: The Research Project, Core Values, The Robot Game Challenge and Booth Design. Genius Rocs won 2nd place in the Core Values category, coming 2nd by only 1 point to the overall tournament champions GalaxyXYZ of AISG who have been participating as a team for the last eight years. This is an amazing achievement for Genius Rocs in their first year.
The Genius Rocs Core Values are : Discovery, inclusion, respect, fairness, communication and integrity which they explained and demonstrated to the panel judges.
At the heart of FLL is 'Cooperation' – which means 'Friendly Competition' with the motto " We help opponents to succeed as we do." Robotics teams are encouraged to demonstrate this cooperation at competitions and this year designed interactive booth activities for all teams to participate in as they visited each other's booths.
We are very proud to be the only school from the Shenzhen who made it to the top 3 schools in any of the categories and look forward to continued success in up coming seasons.

We will soon be looking for new recruits to the Robotics Team from G4-G8 for the next season as we aim to expand the Robotics Program each year.
Grade 7 is working on cinematography and film. The students have been tasked with researching and developing basic film making skills used to design short videos without the aid of special effects. The goal is to create a P.S.A. or Public Service Announcement to address common middle school issues and problems. 7th Grade wants all of middle school to know, we all have problems sometimes, and you are not alone.
Grade 8 has just finished a Service As Action unit, consisting of a refresher class on Adobe.
Photoshop. 8th grade has created safety awareness posters for the product design studio for all of the tools and safety equipment. Currently we have had a 100% accident free record in our design studios and 8th grade hopes to ensure we maintain this!
