After months of preparation, Team #7635 from Shen Wai International School (SWIS) Robotics competed in the 2019 Rochester FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) regional on the 14th and 15th March 2019. This is the first time that SWIS Robotics has participated in an international robotics competition and won the Rookie All-Star Award. This award is given to teams that show a consistent amount of success in building a robot, promoting STEM in their local community, and raising awareness of the FIRST spirit.
As the 2019 All-Star Rookie, the SWIS Robotics team can now proceed to the final FRC championships in Houston this April where they will have a new opportunity to compete alongside the best teams from across the globe. The team will be able to network with representatives from multinational corporations, as well as participate within a closely knitted community fostered by the competition. Team member David Lu said: "It was such an awesome and life-changing experience. It inspired me to learn more about science and engineering. I love FRC."
SWIS Robotics would like to thank their sponsors: Shenzhen Kaidong Group, Han's Group, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School as well as individual supporters who have helped them throughout this memorable journey.
The SWIS Community wishes the best of luck to the SWIS Robotics team in the upcoming final FRC championships in Houston!
About the FRC
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a world-leading robotics competition for those in grades 9-12. It focuses on building skills applicable in the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, and Business Management. In 2017, nearly 100,000 students participated in the competition. FIRST competitions give students valuable experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields that carry through for the rest of their lives. FRC focuses on cultivating these professional skills to a level beyond other FIRST-Sponsored competitions. Due to its achievements in social impact and student training, most universities worldwide have recognized the competition. FIRST's mission is to motivate young people to pursue what is necessary to become leaders and experts in their fields.
