Learning at SWIS > Secondary Blog
The Secondary Division at Shen Wai International School is home to a growing population of inspired, active students engaged in learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our students are led by passionate, highly qualified teachers and supported by a wide learning community.
SWIS offers the International Baccalaureate Organization Middle Years Programme (Candidate School), which serves as a framework for students to develop learning skills necessary for the 21st century. Students in the SWIS MYP are continually challenged to "learn by doing" and connect the classroom to the larger world. Through integrated units of inquiry and projects such as the Community Service Project, students develop an appreciation of global challenges and begin to understand their role as global citizens.
In addition to a comprehensive curricular program, SWIS provides a strong advisory program that ensures all students have the necessary pastoral support required to thrive.
Students in the SWIS Secondary Division also have ample opportunity to extend themselves beyond the curriculum. SWIS has an extensive after school activity program that includes a student council, music ensembles, a forensic club, as well as programming and robotics activities. Secondary can participate in both intermural and competitive sports such as swimming, football, basketball, volleyball or track and field.
We invite you to explore our website to discover what makes the Secondary Division at SWIS a wonderful place to learn.
I am very happy to report that SWIS has been granted authorization from the IBO to offer the Middle Years Programme. MYP authorization is a great milestone for SWIS as well as an affirmation of our high program standards. The MYP authorization report lists a number of commendations for the SWIS program that include collaborative curriculum planning, supporting students to be actively responsible for their learning, a high degree of discourse around the leaner profile attributes in all sections of the school community and facilities that are beyond the requirements for authorization.
Reaching this goal has been a team effort. I would like to thank Mr. Coert van Zijl for his leadership in the process, the SWIS Board and Leadership Team, our dedicated MYP teachers; the SWIS support staff, MYP students and the parents that participated in the verification process.
We will continue to work with the IBO in order to continually improve our MYP program. For now, we will take a little time to celebrate.
